On Saturday February 2nd, there was a crisp winter chill in the air and the big blue skies were back as I headed to North London for Holly and Phil’s Islington wedding day. Something told me that this wedding was going to be very very cool, and I wasn’t wrong. Why? Well for one, the wedding reception was going to be held in a pub! Amazing!!
I am always amazed at how cool and calm brides are on the morning of their wedding and Holly was no exception. Wine was flowing as Holly and her bridesmaids, Laura and Mel, got into their elegant dresses at The Zetter Townhouse, which was a cross between a boutique hotel and a cool antiques showroom. One very cool, retro hotel.
It was a short drive to Islington Town Hall for the wedding ceremony in the very grand, circular Council Chamber. What a place to get married! Sunbeams ebbed and flowed through the windows throughout the service and after Holly and Phil were married, a London Bus was waiting to take all the guests to the reception at The Peasant in Clerkenwell. My favourite part of the day though was walking around the side streets of Clerkenwell with the newly married couple and Holly and Phil’s classic look really looked great against the North London backdrop.
This was also a great wedding as Holly and Phil’s very talented friends got to show their amazing talent. The fantastic flowers were designed by a brand new flower company, Grey on White. (If you have a wedding coming up, get in touch with Monique!). And also there was the top quality band, The Guilt Coins, who I found very hard to take photos of, purely because they were so good I just wanted to watch and listen.
With a first dance routine that would do well on Saturday night BBC1, Holly and Phil’s first dance was an emotional one, made even better as it was played live by The Guilt Coins, it was an amazing version. And despite it being a very relaxed wedding day, there was something highly emotive about the whole day. These two people are clearly well loved by their friends and family and I have genuinely never seen so many smiling faces before.
So, how would I sum up the day? Well, very simply really; days like these are the reason I love taking photographs. It was magical. Holly and Phil, congratulations!
